Culture Stack is based on a simple question: Can you see your cultural fit with a company before you commit?

And going further, can you assess that without needing to take a test?

The short answer to both is: Yes. You absolutely can.

While that sadly didn’t materialize into PMF, the whole undertaking was a journey of solving one difficult problem after another.

I spent 5 months going deep into the literature and created my own cultural assessment framework based on observable behavior. And a good couple of months operationalizing it. The final product could reliably calculate the cultural friction between a company and a hire (or employee) from CV and company website alone. The advanced product at times didn’t even require a CV anymore but worked agentically.

The idea originated as a personal problem: At my previous job I was a severe cultural misfit. Serendipitously, I stumbled across Erin Meyer’s “The Culture Map” (a classic!). That was a true eye-opener. As a lifelong listener and fan of Adam Grant’s “WorkLife” podcast (before it turned shit) and reader of organizational psychology papers, I found myself in disbelief:

Get Milk! is news made actionable. For years I felt that following the news contributed to making me feel informed rather than being informed. For the most part, it managed exceptionally well in stirring my blood and producing zero actionable insights.

Get Milk! follows the opposite approach. By cleverly utilizing California’s “Brown Act”, the app scans local policy APIs and outlets, verifies them and translates them into simple English that shows what actually affects you. And makes taking action as easy as posting online.
