The most familiar of all faces

Poetry

You come in all the shapes we love

All the things we do, all the love we give. We give it to you.

We just don't know it yet

you take what's yours and leave what's left.

That doesn't strike as fair

But what if we're truly the ones

Inmidst a love affair?

We're writing out what's kept inside

Breathe in what isn't ours

And fail so long to realize

what our soul devours

It's only when we all come home

into your gentle arms

we realize, that all we are

is love letters to life

This poem was written for Donnie who took his life in January 2025. He was 30 years and 1 day old. It's used in my shortfilm IPSUM.
